The Japanese artist Misaki Kawai (b. 1978) works with painting, drawing, sculpture, installations and artists’ books. Her works are filled with colourful characters, that appear to come from the dream world of film, music and comics.

The male-dominated Minimal art movement of the 1960s was characterized by an interest in basic geometric shapes and the use of industrially-produced materials. Although many critics consider Anne Truitt (1921–2004) to be a pioneer of Minimal art, she set herself apart from the movement by focusing instead on color and content. Anne Truitt: Luminosities, on view October 15, 2011 – January 8, 2012, celebrates the groundbreaking work of this prolific artist with a 12-piece exhibition, including the Museum’s recently acquired sculpture Thirtieth (1962) and 11 works on paper from the 1970s and 1980s.

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection presents once again Themes&Variations.
First conceived in 2002 by Luca Massimo Barbero, this is the third edition of an innovative but now habitual exhibition formula that offers visitors fresh perceptions of the museum’s collections, whether known or less known, by means of a dialogue with works by more contemporary artists from other collections.

From 7 September to 12 December, the exhibition Dutch Girls will feature at the Schiphol Airport annex of the Rijksmuseum. The exhibition will consist of a small collection of nine well-to-do, leading models from the Golden Age, most stunningly painted by among others Frans Hals, Caesar van Everdingen, Isaak Luttichuys, and Barholomeus van der Helst.

The project of the creative duo Kolesnikov/Denisov 在俄羅斯 (Made in Russia) is a story with an intense plot about love, art, outsourcing, modern capitalism or, maybe, friendship of nations. Reflections of Antonio Negri’s ideas are also visible here: he suggests that the modern concept of proletariat should include not only the industrial working class, but «everyone who is being exploited and who works under the power of capital».
Achromatism
