The Delaware Art Museum and the Wilmington, Delaware, Chapter of The Links, Incorporated, present Haiti: A Tribute in Art, featuring sequined and beaded voodoo flags, ironwork, and paintings by contemporary artists, on view at the Museum May 8, 2010 – July 11, 2010. This exhibition celebrates Haiti’s rich artistic diversity. The works of art are based on several themes relevant to this creative Caribbean country—history, religion, landscape, and daily life. Drawn from local collections, Haiti: A Tribute in Art was inspired by and organized in collaboration with the Wilmington, Delaware, Chapter of The Links, Incorporated.

The artistry of Edward Steichen’s glamorous fashion photography will be on view in Edward Steichen–In High Fashion: The Condé Nast Years 1923-1937, at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art from May 15 to July 25. Steichen, who lived from 1879 to 1973, was one of the most prolific and influential figures in the history of photography, and the artistic achievement of his fashion photography has been generally underappreciated. This exhibition, which features more than 150 vintage prints drawn largely from the Condé Nast archive, offers visitors an intimate view of the fashions and leading cultural figures–actors, writers, politicians and other celebrities–of the 1920s and 30s.

For the first time in its 18-year history, USArtists will be moving from its longtime venue at the 33rd Street Armory to its home at PAFA’s Samuel M.V. Hamilton Building at 128 North Broad Street in Philadelphia.

Kathleen V. Jameson: new Executive Director of The Mint Museum

The Mint Museum announced today the appointment of Kathleen V. Jameson, Ph.D., as its new Executive Director, following an extensive national search supported by Management Consultants for the Arts and a Board of Trustees search committee. Jameson succeeds Phil Kline, who will remain at the Museum as its President & CEO until his retirement on December 31. Jameson has served as Assistant Director, Programming, at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, since 2008 and will assume her new position at the Mint on July 15, 2010.

Curated by Tang Fu Kuen, the exhibition was originally commissioned by the National Arts Council (Singapore) for the Singapore Pavilion, at the 53rd Venice Biennale International Art Exhibition in 2009. It was awarded a Special Mention from the jury – the highest accolade ever received by a Singaporean visual artist at one of the oldest and most prestigious contemporary art platforms for artists worldwide.
