The Delaware Art Museum presents Women Collared for Work, featuring paintings, drawings, sculptures, and mixed media installations by eight female artists, on view February 6, 2010 – March 21, 2010. The artists explore both the well-known contributions and anonymous stories of women spanning more than 100 years of history—1889 to 1999. They interpret the collar as a symbol for the restraint, inspiration, and innovation of powerful female icons representing a range of occupations.

The installation Requiem of Heroism – an abandoned heroic monument – was developed at the European Ceramic Workcentre.

The Rosenbach Museum & Library’s new exhibition Moore Adventures in Wonderland, currently on view through June 6, 2010, is a Marianne Moore and Alice in Wonderland-inspired installation, created by Rosenbach Artist-in-Residence, Sue Johnson. The exhibition investigates the Rosenbach’s collection of the work of author Lewis Carroll and Modernist American poet and writer Marianne Moore and uncovers the unexpected connections between the two.

Govett-Brewster hits 40

2010 marks the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery’s fortieth year of sustained and dynamic contribution to the cultural life of Aotearoa New Zealand.

To celebrate the milestone, a vigorous year-long programme of events has been organised commencing with a spectacular artist-led multimedia and performance event in New Plymouth on 27 March – echoing the spirit of the street party that officially opened the Gallery in 1970.

Jacob Jongert (1883-1942) is one of the first advertising designers in the Netherlands. His career takes flight after he is given the advertising assignment for the tea, coffee and tobacco factories of Wed. J. Van Nelle. This is the start of a series of thousands of designs for the firm, for whom Jongert creates a recognizable image with clear shapes and primary colours.

Pieter Aertsen and the world in disarray

From 2 February through 19 April 2010, the Rijksmuseum will present a small exhibition on the 16th century artist Pieter Aertsen. This marks the first occasion in a long time that his work, including the famous painting The Egg Dance (1552), will once again be on display in the Rijksmuseum. The exhibition is being organised in honour of head curator Wouter Kloek, who is leaving the museum.
