The Otolith Group. Thoughtform, the first exhibition in Italy devoted to the London-based group founded by Anjalika Sagar and Kodwo Eshun, has been co-produced by MAXXI and MACBA – Museu d’Art Contemporani de Barcelona where it has been first presented last February.

The exhibition, VALIE EXPORT / Archive, provides the opportunity to rediscover new aspects of an internationally renowned artist whose works are counted among the canon of 20th century art history and represented in many important museum collections. In this unusual and surprising presentation at the Kunsthaus Bregenz, in part, works that hitherto have not been exhibited will be on show.
Anri Sala
Serpentine Gallery

Anri Sala (born 1974, Tirana) is a leading contemporary artist whose early videos and films mined his personal experience to reflect on the social and political change taking place in his native Albania. Sala has attached a growing importance to sound, creating remarkable works in which he recasts sound’s relationship to the image. Linked to this development is Sala’s long-standing interest in performance, and particularly musical performance. A central premise of this exhibition is that most of the works presented at the Serpentine either use a live performance as their starting point or could lead to a performance in the future.

The English pharmacist and meteorologist Luke Howard wrote in 1802 in the preface to his manuscript On the Modification of Clouds: “Clouds are subject to certain distinct modifications, produced by the general causes which affect all the variations of the atmosphere; they are commonly as good visible indicators of the operation of these causes, as is the countenance of the state of a person’s mind or body.”

The exhibition Shozo Shimamoto. Artworks 1950-2011. East and West, promoted by the Fondazione Palazzo Magnani aims to document the artistic career of the master, from first innovative experiments of the forties and fifties, to the performance of recent years, investigating the notion of physical movement in space in which the artist moves poetically patrolling places. The exhibition is the first and only major retrospective dedicated to Italy Shimamoto.

The son of famed photographer Edward Weston (1886-1958), Brett Weston was a “natural” with the camera. The Photographs of Brett Weston, Nov. 23, 2011, through April 1, 2012, presents a condensed survey of his career of about 40 prints at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City.
