The Cartoon Art Museum presents Samplings and Dabblings: a retrospective, a celebration of the art of Sam Kieth. This exhibition traces Kieth’s career from 1988, when he collaborated with writer Neil Gaiman to produced the first issues of the acclaimed Sandman comic book series through his fan favorite run drawing Wolverine for Marvel Comics Presents and other early works.

Featuring nearly 90 installations, sculptures, furniture, and objects, Against the Grain: Wood in Contemporary Art, Craft and Design explores the most cutting-edge conceptual and technical trends in woodworking today. On view March 19 through July 7, 2013 at the Museum of Arts and Design, the exhibition emphasizes the way artists, designers, and craftspeople have incorporated post-modernist approaches and strategies into woodworking—deconstructing vessel shapes, playing on the relationship between function and form, and utilizing woodturning and furniture techniques in the creation of sculpture.

2012 at the Peggy Guggenheim Collection closed with 372,273 visitors recorded over 315 days of opening, an average of 1,182 visitors per day. Photographer Ruth Thorne-Thomsen (b. 1943) has been described as a visual poet. Her mysterious and lyrical body of work uses the inspiration of the simplest of imaging devices, the pinhole camera, to rethink the expressive potential of photography. Invented Worlds: Photographs by Ruth Thorne-Thomsen opens at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City Feb. 20 and runs through July 28, featuring 40 of her photographs.

An exhibition exploring the early decades of Cubism and featuring the work of such celebrated Cubist artists as Albert Gleizes, Evie Hone and Mainie Jellett, opens to the public in the New Galleries at the Irish Museum of Modern Art in Kilmainham, Dublin, on Wednesday 20 February 2013. Analysing Cubism focuses especially on the Continental milieu in which Hone, Jellett and other Irish artists worked in the 1920s and ‘30s, learning from and contributing to the development of European Modernism.
