Salvador Dalí at High Museum of Art (Atlanta, USA)

Salvador Dalí: The Late Work

The first major exhibition to
reevaluate the last half of Salvador Dalí’s career will be presented exclusively at the High Museum of Art this August. Beginning in the late 1930s, Dalí went through a radical change in which he embraced Catholicism, developed the concept of nuclear mysticism and, in effect, reinvented himself as an artist.

The first art museum exhibition of the acclaimed Seattle performance group Implied Violence features sculptures, costumes, props, masks, video- and photo-documentation of selected past performances as well as a new performance created especially for the Frye Art Museum’s reflecting pools. Titled Implied Violence: Yes and More and Yes and Yes and Why, the exhibition will be on view October 9, 2010 through January 2, 2011.

Chaos and Classicism: Art in France, Italy, and Germany, 1918–1936

Rising from the ruins and horror of World War I, European art and culture returned to the classical past, seeking tranquility, order, and enduring values. Artists turned away from prewar experimentalism and embraced the heroic human figure and rational organization. Chaos and Classicism: Art in France, Italy, and Germany, 1918–1936 is the first exhibition in the United States to focus on the vast transformation in European culture between the world wars.

The Fine Art Society has long been associated with the Glasgow Boys and it is fitting that it should mount an exhibition to celebrate the staging of the largest ever survey of this groundbreaking group of artists. This touring exhibition which begins at Bourne Fine Art, Edinburgh (8 April – 1 May 2010) is timed to coincide with Pioneering Painters: The Glasgow Boys 1880-1900 held at Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum that runs from April to September before transferring to the Royal Academy of Arts, London in October.

Starting in July 2010, the program of the KUB Arena, which was conceived as a platform for art and communication, will be activated more intensively than previously. Not so much to create an additional space for the classic presentation of contemporary art, but rather to open a venue for the negotiation of experimental forms of presentation and artistic production. The new program will be launched with a contribution from the architects collective raumlaborberlin (lit.: space laboratory Berlin).

The new exhibition, which is comprised of works from the company’s collection, focuses on the work “Echo,” a new acquisition by the Berlin-based artist Katja Eckert. The pair of images reflects the collection’s interest in the dialogue between painting and photography. Various methods of approaching and appropriating reality are concealed behind the seemingly media-specific subject matter.

The Southeast Texas community lost a beloved friend with the death of artist George Wentz in March 2010. Fortunately, his joy lives on through his vibrant artwork collected by many and will be featured in an exhibition at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) from July 24 through Sept. 26. An opening reception will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, July 23 to remember Wentz. It will include a gallery talk by Andy Coughlan of the artist’s life and work.
