Harun Farocki at Kunsthaus Bregenz (Austria)

Harun Farocki
Kunsthaus Bregenz
October 23, 2010 to January 9, 2011

With Harun Farocki, the Kunsthaus Bregenz presents a filmmaker and artist whose work has had a strong influence on the history of the political film since the late 1960s. His great importance to the visual arts is reflected not only in the retrospectives of his films at institutions like Tate Modern in London but also in solo exhibitions at the MUMOK Wien, the Jeu de Paume in Paris, and the Museum Ludwig in Cologne. At the very least, Farocki’s participation in the “documenta” in 1997 and 2007 is a strong indication of the impact of his films and installations in the art context.

Flowers of Chaos (Verona, Italy)

Flowers of Chaos
Veneto Videoart Archive
8 october – 9 november 2010
and
ArtVerona Central Hall
Oct 14th to 18th, 2010

The aim of this project is to highlight a specific sector of Chinese video art by focussing attention on its particular origins. What do the artists selected see when they look around? Chaos! Overwhelming disorder, which they deal with through their voice: tales and allegories that investigate today’s society in an ironic manner, though without being afraid of tackling the heavy ideology.

Jon Pylypchuk at Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal (Canada)

Jon Pylypchuk
Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal
October 8, 2010 – January 2, 2011

Insidious. That’s the word to describe Canadian artist Jon Pylypchuk’s works and the way they insinuate themselves, with their benign appearance initially obscuring the seriousness of the subject matter. Our unease stems from the fact that he uses items we associate with childhood (figures, puppets, dolls) to tackle such complex topics as poverty and violence. From October 8, 2010 to January 2, 2011, the Musée d’art contemporain presents Jon Pylypchuk, a survey of the recent output, from 2006 to 2009, of this multidisciplinary artist who is equally at home in painting, sculpture, installation and video.
