The King Survey of the Great Basin and Rocky Mountains, from 1867 to 1872, was the model for the other “great surveys” of the American West. Rare and iconic works by Timothy H. O’Sullivan, the King Survey’s official photographer, will be featured in an exhibition opening at the Art Institute of Chicago on Oct. 22.

The Peggy Guggenheim Collection presents once again Themes&Variations.
First conceived in 2002 by Luca Massimo Barbero, this is the third edition of an innovative but now habitual exhibition formula that offers visitors fresh perceptions of the museum’s collections, whether known or less known, by means of a dialogue with works by more contemporary artists from other collections.
The ephemeral interactive installation by the artist Mary Brilli, Clin d’œil, in the Mausoleum of Bela Rosin, Turin, continues until 24 September.

The fourteenth edition of OPEN, the International Exhibition of Sculptures and Installations will be held at Venice Lido and San Servolo Island. from September 1st to October 2nd, 2011, in conjunction with the 68th Venice Film Festival.
At this venue the Milanese photographer Marina Gavazzi is presenting an installation built from iron scaffolding tubes taken from an abandoned building site.
