A major mid-career retrospective of the work of leading Irish artist Alice Maher opens to the public at the Irish Museum of Modern Art’s temporary exhibition spaces in Earlsfort Terrace on Saturday 6 October 2012.
Florian Pumhösl – Spatial Sequence

Florian Pumhösl will be presenting a new series at the Kunsthaus Bregenz titled Räumliche Sequenz [Spatial Sequence] specially produced for the occasion. The work consists of plaster panels in three different sizes grouped in threes, the order of each trio beginning with the smallest and ending with the largest format. The progression of the 45-piece series of 15 subjects, subtitled Cliché, takes its lead from the Bauhaus artist László Moholy-Nagy’s enamel pictures.
In contrast to Moholy-Nagy, who delegated the task in the case of his telephone pictures to a specialist firm, Pumhösl himself applies the formal effects to his panels using what he refers to as a cliché stamp.

Thomas Schütte – Faces & Figures

Artist Thomas Schütte showcases key sculptural, photographic and painted portraits at the Serpentine Gallery. Although the artist has returned to portraiture throughout his career, this is the first exhibition dedicated entirely to these pioneering works. Key pieces from the artist’s most famous series are presented together with new work made especially for the Serpentine.
Matta. Fictions

For the first time in decades the work of Matta (1911 – 2002) will be shown in Germany. The Bucerius Kunst Forum in Hamburg presents around 40 mostly large-scale works by this Chilean-born artist in a focused retrospective. The exhibition Matta. Fictions stretches from Matta’s beginnings as a Surrealist through to his panoramic paintings of the 1990s.
