The Art Institute of Chicago is pleased to present Contemporary Collecting: The Judith Neisser Collection–the first-ever public exhibition of works from Chicago collector Judith Neisser’s outstanding private collection. Rooted in the 1960s and 1970s but continuing through today’s most contemporary works, this second installment of the series features 79 Minimal and Conceptual works by artists ranging from Blinky Palermo and Robert Ryman to Eva Hesse and Roni Horn. On view in the Modern Wing’s Abbott Galleries (G 182-184) from February 13 through May 22, 2011 , the exhibition brings these works to the public for the first time and also celebrates major gifts to the Art Institute from Judith Neisser and the Neisser family.

In 2011, Moderna Museet’s new directors, Daniel Birnbaum and Ann-Sofi Noring, will launch a new presentation of the collection. Another Story gives a fresh angle on art history, based on works from the Moderna Museet collection. We will start by focusing on photography, which will gradually be given a more prominent position, only to fill the entire exhibition of the permanent collection this autumn.

Hedström’s great interest in art and fascination with the architecture of Malmö Konsthall has led him to document the gallery’s activities, usually at his own initiative. His photographs provide a historic retrospective on various exhibitions, events and individuals connected with Malmö Konsthall.

Debut of Art Stage Singapore a Resounding Success

The inaugural edition of Art Stage Singapore, Asia’s premier international art fair, came to a close on Sunday, 16th January 2011. The four-day fair and VIP preview saw a total of 32,000 visitors attend the event which showcased quality contemporary artworks from 121 galleries representing 26 countries.

Phoebe Toland received her BFA from Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester, NY, and her MFA from Montana State University in Bozeman, MT, and has been featured in solo and group exhibitions extensively throughout the region. Her first solo exhibition at MAM celebrates and draws attention to an exciting new body of work.

Roxy Paine’s Ferment to be installed in Kansas City Sculpture Park

A 56-foot stainless steel sculpture of a tree by internationally acclaimed artist Roxy Paine will be permanently installed in the Kansas City Sculpture Park at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, beginning in early April. The tree was commissioned by Martin Friedman, Hall Family Foundation consultant for the Museum’s Sculpture Park for 20 years, and was funded by the foundation.

The artist Haegue Yang, born in 1971 in Seoul, surprised visitors to the 53rd Venice Biennale at two separate exhibition locations. As part of the largescale thematic group show »Fare Mondi« in the Arsenale she presented seven sculptures from her work Series of Vulnerable Arrangements – Domestics of Community, consisting of metal stands, from which electric cables in differing diameters and colors along with various kinds of objects and light bulbs opulently cascaded. In their vertical orientation these works are as equally reminiscent of life-forms as they are of technological relicts from an era earlier than the 21st Century.

MAM’s 39th Benefit Art Auction

MAM’s 39th Benefit Art Auction exhibition features over 100 wonderful contemporary artists from near and far. The exhibition, with 26 pieces of Silent Auction artwork and 76 pieces of Live Auction artwork, represents a diverse spectrum of media from painting and drawing to ceramics and photography. It is an impressive survey of the best emerging and established contemporary art in our region. This is an exciting year for the auction exhibition.
