Monet at Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art (Kansas City, USA)

Monet’s Water Lilies
Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

For the first time in more than 30 years, all three panels of a remarkable water lily triptych by the preeminent Impressionist Claude Monet will be on view together, from April 9 to Aug. 7, at The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. The exhibition reunites the right-hand panel, from the Nelson-Atkins collection, with panels owned by the Saint Louis Art Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art. The three were last exhibited together in 1979. With the exception of a triptych in New York’s Museum of Modern Art, this is the only Monet triptych in the United States.

The Great Upheaval at Guggenheim Museum

The Great Upheaval: Modern Art from the Guggenheim Collection, 1910–1918
Guggenheim Museum
February 4 – June 1, 2011

When Vasily Kandinsky and Franz Marc formed the group Der Blaue Reiter (The Blue Rider) in late 1911, the artists predicted a watershed in the arts, a große Umwälzung (great upheaval) that would radically challenge traditional artistic production. Tremendous creativity and innovation characterized the years leading up to World War I. European cities were evolving, and the artistic avant-garde likewise adapted and responded to twentieth-century modernity, from its spectacles and technological feats to the social fragmentation and alienation of the modern metropolis.

Haegue Yang at Kunsthaus Bregenz (Austria)

Haegue Yang – Arrivals
Kunsthaus Bregenz
January 22 to April 3, 2011

The artist Haegue Yang, born in 1971 in Seoul, surprised visitors to the 53rd Venice Biennale at two separate exhibition locations. As part of the largescale thematic group show »Fare Mondi« in the Arsenale she presented seven sculptures from her work Series of Vulnerable Arrangements – Domestics of Community, consisting of metal stands, from which electric cables in differing diameters and colors along with various kinds of objects and light bulbs opulently cascaded. In their vertical orientation these works are as equally reminiscent of life-forms as they are of technological relicts from an era earlier than the 21st Century.
