Helly Oestreicher: Small Works

This summer Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is showing a selection of approximately thirty small works by Oestreicher (1936) in several vitrines and on the wall. In the early 1960s Helly Oestreicher was part of the innovative generation of Dutch ceramicists who redefined the discipline.
George Condo: Mental States

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen has a unique collection of works by the Surrealists, including masterpieces by Dalí and Magritte. The work of George Condo (1957) has a surreal quality that complements this collection. The selection of works charts the artist’s development from 1983 to the present day. His paintings and sculptures explore the genre of portraiture, the human physiognomy and various ‘states of mind’.

Requiem of Heroism

Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen’s Intervention #13 presents recent work by Rotterdambased artist Anne Wenzel (1972). Wenzel is showing a steel and ceramic installation made specially for the museum. The installation Requiem of Heroism – an abandoned heroic monument – was developed at the European Ceramic Workcentre.
Ritsue Mishima, frozen garden/ “fruits of fire”

Ritsue Mishima, one of today’s leading glass designers, is filling a Japanese winter garden in Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen with glass objects. It will be a garden that plays with the inspiring Dutch light, captured differently each time by the Venetian glass.
Trying is Buying – Jacob Jongert 1883-1942

Jacob Jongert (1883-1942) is one of the first advertising designers in the Netherlands. His career takes flight after he is given the advertising assignment for the tea, coffee and tobacco factories of Wed. J. Van Nelle. This is the start of a series of thousands of designs for the firm, for whom Jongert creates a recognizable image with clear shapes and primary colours.

In 2009 several national and international artists undertook an artistic journey of discovery into the past, present and future of the Port of Rotterdam under the umbrella title of Portscapes, drawing inspiration from the port. Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen is showing ten art projects that resulted from it in a high-profile exhibition.
