Beato Angelico, Palazzo Strozzi and Museum of San Marco

(Florence) From 26 September 2025 to 25 January 2026, Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and the Museum of San Marco present Beato Angelico, a landmark exhibition dedicated to Fra Giovanni da Fiesole (c. 1395–1455), one of the greatest masters of the Italian Renaissance.

Co-organized with the Regional Directorate of National Museums of Tuscany of the Ministry of Culture, the exhibition brings together for the first time in over two centuries some of Beato Angelico’s most important altarpieces, alongside paintings, drawings, sculptures, and manuscripts. These works come from leading museums, libraries, and collections across Italy and abroad, as well as from churches and local institutions of outstanding historical and cultural value.

Curated by Carl Brandon Strehlke (Curator Emeritus, Philadelphia Museum of Art), with Stefano Casciu (Regional Director of National Museums of Tuscany) and Angelo Tartuferi (former Director of the Museum of San Marco), Beato Angelico is the first major exhibition in Florence devoted to the artist in seventy years, since the landmark 1955 monograph. Spanning Palazzo Strozzi and the Museum of San Marco, it traces the development and influence of Angelico’s art, in dialogue with contemporaries such as Lorenzo Monaco, Masaccio, Filippo Lippi, Lorenzo Ghiberti, Michelozzo, and Luca della Robbia.

The project, the result of more than four years of work, also involves an extensive conservation campaign that has restored numerous masterpieces to their original splendour.

Celebrated for his use of perspective and light, Beato Angelico combined late Gothic tradition with the emerging principles of the Renaissance, creating works of extraordinary innovation and deep spirituality. This exhibition offers an unprecedented opportunity to rediscover his artistic genius, exploring the interplay of the sacred and the human at the heart of his vision.

Beato Angelico is promoted and organized by Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, the Ministry of Culture – Regional Directorate of National Museums of Tuscany, and the Museum of San Marco.
