WILMINGTON, DE (March 14, 2011) – The Delaware Art Museum presents Escape to Adventure: Focus on Arthur E. Becher, featuring 40 paintings and drawings from the Museum’s celebrated collection of original illustrations, on view March 19, 2011 – December 31, 2011. The exhibition features scenes of adventure ranging from historical exploits in exotic locales, romantic entanglements, and personal dramas stemming from contemporary crises, such as the sting of discrimination and the shame of unemployment.

For more than 50 years, photographer Fred Comegys has captured international celebrities and local kids for the pages of The News Journal, Delaware’s most prominent newspaper. His distinctive images present national news and local interest stories, and perhaps most memorably, the intersection of the two. Born and raised in Delaware, he comes by these local angles naturally. The Delaware Art Museum is pleased to present Fred Comegys Photographs, featuring 60 images taken by Comegys over the last four decades, on view February 12, 2011 – May 1, 2011.

Ultra-Realistic Sculpture by Marc Sijan

The Delaware Art Museum presents Ultra-Realistic Sculpture by Marc Sijan, featuring 17 startlingly lifelike sculptures, on view from November 13, 2010 through January 16, 2011. Based on individuals Sijan knows well, his faces and figures capture movement and human emotion, as well as the minute details of individual appearance. Although the artist draws inspiration from the idealized anatomy of classical sculptures, such as Michelangelo’s David, his contemporary interpretation of the human form illustrates the gritty imperfections of average people.
