Collectors’ Stage: Asian Contemporary Art from Private Collections

Organised by the Singapore Art Museum (SAM) in co-operation with Art Stage Singapore, SAM is pleased to present Collectors’ Stage: Asian Contemporary Art from Private Collections. Featuring 33 artworks by 18 collectors, the exhibition offers a rare opportunity for the public to view artworks by some of Asia’s most famous and critically acclaimed artists that are kept in the personal collections of eminent private collectors. The exhibition is supported by the Economic Development Board of Singapore, Helutrans and Mapletree.

Wu Guangzhong at National Art Gallery, Singapore

East Meets West – The Exhibition of Wu Guangzhong’s Paintings

In a show of solidarity with the regional community of Asian art museums, The National Art Gallery, Singapore will be travelling key works to China under its banner for the first time. From 20 November to 25 December 2010, the artworks of recently bereaved master Chinese painter Wu Guanzhong belonging to Singapore will be exhibited at the Zhejiang Art Museum in Hangzhou. Titled East Meets West – The Exhibition of Wu Guangzhong’s Paintings, it comprises a total of 307 works of art by Wu, of which 76 will hail from Singapore’s national collection. Singapore’s contribution of works is the second largest amongst the eight participating art institutions.

The Singapore Art Museum (SAM) is proud to partner the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (MOT) to present Trans-Cool TOKYO, an exhibition that showcases the outstanding collection of contemporary Japanese art from the MOT.
Charting the development of contemporary art in Japan through the years, the exhibition features thought-provoking works by artists who have made an indelible impact in contemporary Japanese art, including major names such as Yayoi Kusama, Takashi Murakami and Yoshitomo Nara as well as rising stars including Kiichiro Adachi and Haruka Kojin.

The Singapore Art Museum (SAM) is proud to present the first solo exhibition of a Thai artist, Natee Utarit entitled, Natee Utarit: After Painting. This extensive exhibition, which is sponsored by Credit Suisse AG as part of the Bank’s “Innovation in Art” series, is a mid-career survey of one of the leading figures in contemporary Thai painting. It marks Natee Utarit’s biggest solo show to date and his first museum retrospective. It has been made possible through the museum’s close ties with key local and overseas partners in both the public and private spheres.

The Singapore Art Museum (SAM) and the Centre Pompidou (CP) from Paris take a step forward this morning in strengthening cultural alliances between Singapore and France in the field of contemporary art. Both sides signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for future cooperation to enhance the development and showcase of contemporary art, building upon a wider government-to-government framework agreement signed by Minister for Foreign Affairs George Yeo and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of the French Republic Bernard Kouchner in January last year.
