Gulumbu Yunupingu from Yirrkala in North East Arnhem Land, has won the People’s Choice Award of $5,000 in the Western Australian Indigenous Art Awards 2010.

Her entrancing paintings on bark and carved wood of Garak, The Universe and Ganyu, Stars , depict an infinite universe of stars, shared by all. They show true innovation, while embodying understandings of Yolngu belief systems and contemporary life.

Marcus Jansen, has been named as the winner of the Artwork & Photograhy category in the Aesthetica Creative Works Competition 2010.

The Guggenheim and YouTube, in collaboration with HP and Intel, announced today the shortlist for YouTube Play. A Biennial of Creative Video. Selected from more than 23,000 submissions from 91 countries, the 125 shortlisted videos can now be seen on the YouTube Play channel at youtube.com/play and at kiosks in the Guggenheim museums in New York City, Berlin, Bilbao, and Venice.

To celebrate the close of the Guggenheim’s 50th Anniversary year on May 14, 2010, the museum announces a new online competition inviting participants to reimagine the museum’s iconic rotunda and submit their ideas via the image-sharing site Flickr.

The competition, entitled Re: Contemplating the Void—Create Your Own Guggenheim Intervention, corresponds to the current exhibition Contemplating the Void: Interventions in the Guggenheim, in which the Guggenheim Museum invited nearly two hundred artists, architects, and designers to imagine their dream interventions in the rotunda space.

Artworks by 19 local high school seniors have been chosen to be exhibited in the 23rd Annual Protégé Competition and Exhibition at the Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET).
